I Forgot to Knock

Silly me. I was completely confident about the ACT. I forgot to knock on wood. I have officially been brain-frozen by ACT test for 67A. It kicked my butt. It beat me down. My best friend insisted that it curb-stomped her. I’ve heard various other things about it, but overall, it’s the same: *brainfrizz*. The fantastic thing, though, is that I just needed the writing part, so with my 31 composite from an earlier test, I should be able to take just the writing and get a decent score.

Earth and Sky is coming along quite nicely. I’ll try to take some pictures later and post them. As soon as I finish EaS, I’m going to start on Bubblegum Pop! version 2. Pink acrylic and blended eyelash yarns always make for high bids at the silent auctions. I made almost the same scarf last year, but with a different acrylic. I’ll also post pictures of it once it’s in progress.

But for now, I must go and study for the SAT this weekend so it doesn’t beat me up like the ACT did.

Working for the Weekend

TGI Saturday. Unfortunately for me, it’s also ACT Saturday. Grawr!! What an awful thing to have to take: a test on a Saturday. I’m kicking myself particularly hard right now because even though I have a 31 composite, I didn’t take the writing part when I took the test I got the 31 on. So now, after having not had math for nine months, I have to go struggle through multiple math sections that always kick my butt. The good thing is that it’s not just math and reading. There’s science in there too and the ACT’s science section is essentially reading comprehension, just with graphs and numbers. And I rock reading comprehension.

I am proud to say that, as president of our school’s knitting club, I finally managed to not be busy for one of our meetings. For the past month, I’ve been gone or busy during lunch on Fridays and yesterday, I actually had nothing to do. So, while only a few people showed up and it was just those few people who always come, I did talk with our teacher sponsors (check out their site at www.yellowhounddesigns.com) about when the silent auction would start up and how many scarves we were predicting. The numbers look like they’ll be a lot lower than last year, but hopefully, we’ll be able to get enough to have a good silent auction. Hopefully.

Anyway, must run.

Fantasmical Fridays! (with pictures)

It’s finally Friday! Last night’s performance went perfectly and I can’t wait to do it again. It is disappointing that we only get three performances, but what can you do?

Oh, and my batteries are charged up, so I’ve got pictures of Wavy!

Here’s the finished product. It’s a little shorter than I would have liked, but it turned out quite well. I think I’ve decided to keep it for myself.

As for Earth and Sky, it’s coming along very quickly.

This has been a particularly quick post, but I must be off. I need to wash off last night’s stubborn eye makeup and we have knitting club today, so I’ve got to get ready.

More later.

Chilly Turtles

Chilly Turtle, Chilly Turtle! It’s 36 degrees Fahrenheit and it’s waaaay too cold. My toesies are frozey and I’m going to have to be barefoot for a good 30 minutes today in our morning show for the junior high kids. Soooo cold. School tiles are not known for their insulation or warmth, so let’s hope the director got the room toasty before we arrive.

I am trying to remain positive, though. The good thing about the cold is that I can wear my knitted stuff. And I’m so happy to have had the opportunity to be in this show. The school tiles… what’s positive about them…? Uh… they’re cheap? Which means the school can save money… and give it to athletics. Well, that didn’t work. OK, so I’ll just be content that I have a school with floors… or a school at all.

Most things went quite well yesterday. I’ve got the second part of the French test today, and the only thing I’m sad about is that I’ll be missing my AP Literature class and we’re discussing the cyclopes from The Odyssey. I would have liked to been able to be in the discussion, but I’d much rather be acting.

Well, must finish getting ready for the day. More later

Well, Here’s a Load Off My Mind

Our final dress rehearsal went well. There were a few minor slipsies, but no major ones that anyone in the audience noticed.

My French test over Candide was not as difficult as I expected.

And I’m almost broke, which means I won’t be making Christmas gifts for anyone! My “On the List” list has now been cleared of any projects that were for Christmas. If I come into any money, I’ll certainly be buying yarn. But right now, I have neither the time nor the energy nor the funds to make Christmas gifts. Executive decision has been made. I’ll be making things that have been on my list after I do get some money.

Hump Day

Yay for Wednesdays! It’s Hump Day, and everything is sort of falling into place (knock on wood). Yesterday’s rehearsal for the play went quite well, except for a few little slip-ups. Nothing major, though. Oh, I did forget my makeup, so I just had eyeliner on, which was probably not good under the stage lights. I was able to get a decent way into the Earth and Sky scarf. And I’ve got most of the yarn for Christmas presents picked out. Most of it is coming from knitpicks, if not all of it, just because it’s so darn cheap and I’ve heard report of it being extra-speedy.

As for today, it’s the last rehearsal, so let’s hope we can pull it through. I’ve also got a French test over Candide and I have a sinking feeling in my stomach every time I think about it.

Now, I must be off so that I can get ready and work my tail off today. More later.

Blue Tuesday

It’s another cold and rainy day. The sky is actually looking a little blue today, but a dark grey-blue. Regardless, it feels like fall and yet the trees haven’t started changing colors, even though they should be beautiful this year from all the rain. There’s no consistency in the temperature at all either. Last week, I was going outside in tank tops and shorts and now, now I’m digging out my big coat, hats, scarves, gloves, anything that will keep me warm. Not that I mind the extra clothing; it means I can show off my knitting! I just wish the temperature changes would be a little more gradual.

Rehearsal yesterday was mediocre. We actors made it through the first scene of Act I without much of a hitch (except for me, who forgot one teensy line, but it was a fluke). Scene 2 came around and we were breaking character left and right. One of the males who has been in lots of plays forgot his cue and ended up saying, “Oh yeah. That’s this line. What is it again?” in full voice on stage. Thank goodness we didn’t have an audience. I was not happy with the performance at all. Oh well. It was a Monday, I suppose. We’ll do better today. We have to do better today.

I’m not at all far along on the Earth and Sky scarf, so nothing new to update about knitting.

Must go. Darling Sister should be up, but I have to check. More later.

Finished: Wavy Scarf

Yay, a finished project! I finished today during my normal knitting hour, fifth-hour debate. The link to the pattern is below. I’ll post pictures later, seeing how my camera is being extremely stupid and refusing to work with any batteries.

Click here to see the pattern and here to see pictures.

I substituted the Cascade 220 with Brown Sheep’s Nature Spun worsted in #086 Nordic Blue. I also used size US 6 needles instead of US 7. I’m still undecided as to where this will be going, but as it stands now, I can mark it off the list!

Cost:
Yarn: $6.54 or something (thank goodness for student discounts!)
Needles: already owned
Time: about 5-6 hours. I have no way of knowing, since I knit any time I can and it varies so much.
Overall Cost: Inexpensive

More updates coming soon

Cold, Rainy Mondays

There’s nothing more… scratch that thought. I hate Mondays. Everyone heads back to school or work after a too-short weekend. We’re still tired from staying out late Friday or Saturday night, but had to stay up all Sunday doing homework. The good thing about this Monday is that it’s dark, dreary, and supposed to rain. Which means, to quote Steel Magnolias, God’s not tryin’ so I don’t have to!

We’ve got our first full dress rehearsal of the fall play this afternoon. I really hope everyone has their lines. We open on Thursday and we must do well. I’d feel awful if we didn’t.

On the plus side, I got the first sample of a chart done for the WWE hats. Unfortunately, I have no scanner and the camera is on the fritz, so I’ll just have to remember to take a picture of it when I update with the Finished post. But, now I can move it to the Planning list.

I suppose I should explain all my lists. Yes, I know it’s quite odd, but it gives the illusion that I’m actually accomplishing things with my time, instead of wasting valuable minutes that could be used for other, more critical things. So, I’ll stick with my lists for now.

The First of Many

Welcome to the blog! As of right now, my life is insanely… insane. I am overexerting myself and have no time whatsoever to do ANYTHING that I want to. I have to read The Odyssey, study some French, memorize my lines, and find time and money to make all the gifts for my family, in addition to making projects for our knitting club’s charity winter auction! So the current list of projects goes:

OTN:
Brown & Blue Chunky Striped Scarf (for charity auction)
Wavy Scarf from Knitty in blue (me? Christmas gift? auction?)

On The List:
Crocodile Mittens (2 pair for cousins)
Football Mittens modeled after the croc mittens (1 pair for cousin)
Baseball Mittens modeled after the croc mittens (1 pair for cousin)
Flame Scarf (1 for cousin)
Balloon Cable Scarf (1 for Grandpa)
Leaves Lace Scarf (1 for Grandma)
Vintage Velvet Cable Scarf (1 for other Grandma)
Flower Bib (1 for my only girl cousin)
WWE beanies (2 in different colors for cousins)
One-Skein Gloves (for Mom)
Pillows (a few for Sis’s made-over room)
And a project of unknown origin for Dad

Hopefully, I’ll be able to cross of each of these fairly quickly. Hopefully.

So, if you’re ready, hold tight, because here we go!
