Ok, so I’ll tie this into knitting straight off. Every Thursday at 7:45 PM, I turn off my cell phone, pick up my knitting, and head my big, comfy chair for Grey’s Anatomy. I knit during the show. Soon, though, it might just be reruns I’m watching.
As we have all heard, the WGA is on strike because the bigwig producers refuse to pay them decent residuals from DVDs and streamed or downloaded shows and films. This is completely wrong and as such, I will not be buying any DVDs, downloading or streaming anything until this is resolved.
On Broadway, the stagehands of TWENTY SEVEN shows walked out. They are demanding that producers continue with the regulations their union set into place, rather than cutting jobs and giving those who continue to work a raise.
There seems to be a common thread here, so let’s just clear the water. The producers are nothing without the people who work behind the scenes. The people behind the scenes are nothing without the producers. Everyone is interdependent, so we need to start acting like it.
This doesn’t just apply to Hollywood or Broadway. We are all interdependent, everyone in the world. One person’s death affects us, however oblivious we are. We have to support each other. I mentioned this yesterday, but thought I’d give an update. FreeRice.com raised over 100 thousand grains yesterday. And as a comparison, there are 29,000 grains of rice in one pound of long-grain rice. That’s over four thousand pounds raised yesterday and over forty thousand in a little over one month.
So take the time. Build your vocabulary and build someone else up.
