Off To Work She Goes

I have come to a realization: I need a job. My checking account is running low and (apart from the allowance I get every few months which will disappear next year) I have no steady income. Hence the need for a job. Now, I could work at the library, but they’re not hiring. I could see about working at my LYS, but they’ve got such weird hours that it probably wouldn’t do me that much good to work there. Perhaps I should just get an application for the library and have them keep it on file for when they are hiring. I suppose that’s my best bet. I’d try selling my knitting, but that’s so time-consuming and I’d never get a steady income from that. Yes, I guess I’ll just apply at the library.

Ok, I’ve got to go study for finals. Uck.

Oh, Quizzes…

I was on a “internet quiz” kick for a while and just found these!

You’re a Starfish!

To others, your presence seems to denote greatness, or at the very
least something celestial. You’re enthralled by the heavens above and seem to
always be looking to them for guidance. Once you decide to stick to something,
it’s very difficult to get you away from it. You really don’t seem to mind other
people, even strangers, touching you. We can’t all be you; someone has to
applaud.

Take the Animal Quiz
at the Blue Pyramid.

Fascinating, ain’t it? Because that pretty much really describes me.

Tuesdays are the Worst

The weather cannot decide what it wants to do. Yesterday it was supposed to ice (but it didn’t) and today, it’s 57 degrees! There is supposedly a cold front about to come through though, so it will start to drop tomorrow, I think.

Reason for the weather report? I almost-finished the Hannah hat from MagKnits. I forgot to get buttons, but other than that, it’s all ready to wear. I was going to try to track down some buttons this afternoon, but then remembered, “oh yeah! I’m stage manager and we’ve got our first read-through today.” So there goes buying buttons at a reasonable hour. Maybe I’ll go anyway and get home a little later. Or something.

Regardless, Hannah is finished except for the buttons and I can’t wear it! It’s too warm to wear it and I think it might be a little short, so I’m thinking about frogging it and adding a few more rows to the hat body. It barely covers my ears and that’s what always get chilly. Hmm… maybe I will. I’ll take the hat with me for button shopping, but I’ll frog it back and give it some more body.

How helpful is this blog? Very. It helps me make important decisions like this!

One Sock Down…

One to go! I finished the first of the RPM socks late last night. Apart from a bit of laddering at the toe and some creative decreasing (again at the toe), I’m quite happy with they way they turned out. So happy in fact that I’m not even bothering to wait until the other is done. I’m wearing it right now and it’s doing a fantastic job at keeping my right foot warm in 31-degree weather. Picture? Why, yes I do have one!

It has gotten quite cold here, with rain and freezing rain for the past few days. I wouldn’t be surprised if school was closed (and that’s why I did all my homework last night!), but it won’t unless it starts to snow… right now. Or everything is insanely frozen over. But, alas, I doubt that it is, so at 7:30, it will be off to school I go. With the second sock of course. And since I’ll probably be heading off to school, I must fly.

Finger Sores

Ow. My right index finger is starting to hurt. Pauvre moi. I have the bad habit of using my fingers to push the needles through when I knit and because of the sheer amount I have been knitting this week, my finger hurts. Oh well. At least I’ve got almost one whole nifty sock to wear.

Our auction goes up today, so I’ve got pictures of all the lovely scarves and such that have been designed.
Shot of the full table, 35 pieces in total and bids already when I took these this morning! From top to bottom, Confetti II, Domino, and Carnival.

From bottom to top this time, Caramel, Gryffindor, Seaside, and just a hint of Brown Sugar.
Left to right, Confetti II, Charybdis, Spirit Hats 1 thru 4, (underneath those is a hint of Spirit
Scarf), Peas & Carrots hat, and in the bottom righthand corner is a hint of Fir hat. Peas and Carrots is on top of Atomic Fireball scarf.

Now for some generic big table shots (let’s see if I can make it kind of look like the table!):

Well, that kind of worked. That’s sort of what the table looked like, except SO much better in person. So much better. It’s really an awesome turnout. In other news, I’ve started working the toe for the first RPM and I’m hoping to have it finished by the end of the weekend. But now, it’s late, I’m tired, and will write more tomorrow.

Last Double Post (maybe) I Swear

I felt utterly inspired to post that I have officially ordered yarn for Ester!! I’ve been waiting to make this since I stumbled across knitty and saw it for the first time and now my yarn from Knit Picks is (hopefully) on its way! Yes, I’m a bad girl and haven’t finished my socks yet and am already looking forward to the next project, but I think I’m allowed to buy yarn and supplies so long as I don’t officially start the new project.

Besides, my stash needs some beefing up.

I Heart Socks

These socks are incredible. I love them so much! I’m getting pretty close to being finished with the first one and I can’t wait to start on the second. I’m hoping that I won’t get Second Sock Syndrome, but I think I’ve protected myself because I’m really interested to see how the different colorway knits up. So, time for a picture!

Yay, Socks! After these socks, I think I’m going to finally knit up Ester from Knitty. I’ve got it queued on Rav, and it seems like it would be an easy first non-sock, -scarf, or -hat clothing piece. I know I should probably focus on the second sock I have to knit, but Ester’s always in the back of my mind and it’s finally her time! I’ll probably order the yarn as soon as I get word back from my top-choice college. If I’m accepted (cross your fingers and knock on wood!), I’ll knit Ester in a blue. If I’m not (or deferred until regular admissions), I’ll knit it up in a purple. Oh, now I’m even more excited!

In other news, school is driving me crazy. I’m really having a terrible time managing my time between school and everything else (which is mainly knitting). Regardless, my grades should still be decent (they’re ok, I just checked). I’m so ready just to be done with high school, but I know I should enjoy it because it just gets harder from here on out. I find out by the 15th if I got in Top Choice, so I’m getting pretty anxious.

Anyway, must fly

Here’s Your Sign…

It’s a sign that Ravelry is bad for a knitter’s habit when one begins to try to feel the yarn through the computer screen. All the pretty things are making me ache for more money, more time, more ANYTHING so that I too could have the yummy yarns to make the gorgeous projects.

This Christmas when I’m away from my computer, I will have withdrawals. I can tell now.

More Updates

Ravelry is my most favorite thing EVER! If you’re on, look me up. I’m miniknitter on Rav and just about any knitting site. Now for some updates:

I’ve turned the heel on my sock! It was a bit tedious, but I like the flap heel method and am really happy with how the socks are turning out.

In other news… actually, not much to say. In about an hour, I will be carting around darling sister and her friends for their Odyssey of the Mind practice. But besides that, not much is happening.

I’ll be back again, never fear!

A Few Pics

I should have lots of FO pictures, but unfortunately, my camera was still being menopausal when I had many of my FOs. Most of them have gone to auction or given to their new owner. Others have been commandeered by the darling sister. Still others have just not been pictured because of my laziness. Regardless, it’s time now for some good old fashioned picture time!
A preliminary picture of RPM. It’s a bit blurry I know, but that’s the best I could do with the current camera situation.

The second ball for RPM. Fully aware that these are not the same color and nope, I’m not colorblind. I really wanted this yarn, but LYS only had one hank, so I picked another that there was an odd hank of and decided that mismatched socks were really what I needed.

Last but not least, a gift from a close actor buddy of mine! Apparently, this past weekend there was an Alpaca fiber show at our university’s livestock center. When Actor-Buddy found out, she immediately scurried over and found tons of beautiful yarn such as this. I know the picture isn’t great, but the yarn is a gorgeous deep, deep blue. It’s 110 yards of 100% superfine alpaca and is incredibly soft. Actor-Buddy said she got an incredible burgundy/wine red and some black and is making a scarf out of them. I may be tracking down the company to buy more of it since a close friend who is allergic to wool rubbed it all over her face and neck and said that it would be perfect for something for her. What’s even worse is that she’s one who knows how to knit and she’s still enlisting me!

Our school knitting club silent auction is gearing up. We’ve got 17 various knitted or crocheted items, including a bag, two hats, and tons o’ scarves. Our token diversity (a cross-stitcher) is bringing polar fleece scarves and hats as well (when she finds them). The boyfriend is making a scarf I have dubbed Grape Soda that should be finished soon and the anti-wool friend is almost finished with a scarf that I think I shall call Caribbean.

Well, I must be off to study for a Comparative Politics test over Japan. And read for AP Lit. And French. And study for French. And knit. And obsessively check Ravelry for my invite. Oh, and if I have time, sleep.
