Happy-ness

Yesterday = incredibly fantastic! I was expecting my yarn to arrive on Monday, so I was furiously knitting and cross-stitching while watching shows online so that I could start my projects as soon as my yarn arrived. And then Mom calls and tells me I have a package. Yep, that’s right! My yarn got here TWO DAYS early! Thanks Knit Picks!

So I got Natalya finished at about midnight last night and all that’s left is to weave in the ends. Mom tried them on and she really likes them, though she is a bit confused by the little holes that the m1’s made along the thumb.

And because I got them finished, I’ve started on my Boyfriend Socks! Once again, I love toe-up socks. I can’t understand why anyone wouldn’t like it, though I do know that people don’t. It’s just easier for me, I guess to be able to see the sock and try it on as I go to see if I need more length, etc.

Anyway, I already flubbed up on the pattern, but it’s ok, since I wasn’t very far into them, still at the toe. It’s all fixed now and they’re going smoothly!

Along with the KP Essential that came, I got my purple and white yarn for the mini-argyle beret. I was so excited about this hat. And then I looked at the needle sizes that the pattern calls for. Groan. I don’t have either of the sizes that it wants me to have so I’m swatching right now and hoping that I can get away with a US4 for the bigger size needle and then only have to get one smaller needle. Please, knitting gods, let it work. I’m swatching; doesn’t that deserve a reward?!

And my yarn for Mrs. Darcy came! I’m really, really excited about that, but I’m not going to start it until I’ve got at least the socks finished. I’d like to be able to keep the cardigan pieces at home and have a small project that goes with me. I highly doubt that Mrs. D would appreciate being shoved in a Ziploc bag. As for the yarn, Main Line feels lovely on the skein. I just hope is feels as lovely when it knits up.

And as if that wasn’t enough, yesterday was Founders Day for my mom’s and grandmother’s sorority. Since there’s a chapter at Northwestern, I got dragged along to the festivities to schmooze. At the silent auction, I spied the most glorious thing a senior in high school could ever see: a big ole box of school supplies. BEAUTIFUL. I did a bit of oohing and ahhing and convinced Mom that I needed it for next year (A label-maker? That was totally on my list. And I need a whiteboard calendar to hang on my dorm door, don’t I?) so she bid on it at the very end and won it! It’s awesome. And less money spent on supplies for next year is less money I have to spend in general, so it’s definitely a win-win situation.

Well, I thinks that about sums up my weekend!

A Game of Tag

I’ve been tagged by AJ!  This tag is the 6-Word Memoir tag.

The Rules:

  • Write your own 6-Word Memoir.
  • Post it in your blog.  Include a picture if you want to.
  • Link back to the person that tagged you and the post they tagged you in.
  • Tag 5 more people with links.

My memoir:  What goes down must come up.
This is big for me.  While I’ve had a good life so far, it hasn’t been without struggles.  The countless losses of family members have hit me hard at times and the risks that my friends take are definitely not always smart.  Regardless of how bad things get, there is always a point at which things start to get better.

So, my tags are: Rerab & Rosy, Tiara.Purl, Bonnie of Knitted Distraction, and um… that’s all for now.  I got more than half, right?

The Mad Rush to Finish Projects

Well, Natalya for Mom (Ravelry link) has been started. I’ve got one glove almost completely finished, just the two fingers and a thumb left.

To my cross-stitch, I have added the Christmas tree, a few presents, and the gingerbread men. It’s coming along quite nicely.

As for life in general, I’m definitely heading off to NU at the end of summer. I’m really looking forward to it. It’ll be cold, but the plus is that I can knit lots of fun projects and justify it because they’ll be keeping me warm.

In other news, the world surrounding my group of friends is about to explode. There’s so much tension between so many people in the group: my best friend and me, my boyfriend & my best friend, my best friend and her boyfriend [who happens to be my boyfriend's best friend], another close friend of mine and her 5Xex-boyfriend [five times?? seriously.], the group’s support of one friend and disapproval of another doing the same thing. Seriously. Drama sucks.

Theatre, however, rocks. The costume closet has been weeded through and we have set aside five BIG bags of women’s clothes that will go to the dollar sale. Now we’re in the tough part. We’ve got to sort through all the remaining clothes and figure out some sort of organization. Unfortunately, one of the other girls helping me with the closet is very opinionated like me and we often butt heads. Luckily it’s not standoff-ish, but it can be a bit uncomfortable when I have to tell her that the dress she has pulled doesn’t fit what we’re pulling at all, put it back please. Eventually, the closet will be lovely and organized and neat and tidy, and we’ll get a good amount of money from the sale.

Which reminds me, I need to go through the bags and find that really nice black blouse. From Banana Republic! And he wants to get rid of it!

Now I must leave to go do homework. Blech.

Yaaarrrrrn

So, I’ve finally gotten around to ordering yarn from KnitPicks

The List:

  1. 2 skeins of Essential Sock in black for the boyfriend’s Boyfriend Socks;
  2. 12 skeins of Main Line in blueberry for my Mrs. Darcy; and
  3. 2 skeins of Swish DK, 1 in eggplant and 1 in white for my NU colored Mini-Argyle Beret

I do still need to finish my cross stitch and restart mom’s fingerless gloves. I’m going to restart the gloves tonight so that when my yarn gets here I can start asap knitting the socks since they were a Valentine’s Day gift… oops!  It took him forever to pick a pattern, though, so it’s ok!

SQUEEEEEEAL!!!

Short Post:

I got accepted to Northwestern!!

Oh, Lord.

Mr. Director is keeping WAY more than we want him to in terms of clothes. Everything has sentimental value. ugh.

He is getting better, though. With each rack he gets rid of a little more. I’m taking my camera to school tomorrow so that I can get some pictures of the messiness that we go through trying to dig for costumes and hopefully what it will look like.

As for knitting, there hasn’t been much. I’ve been told to finish my started projects before I begin another, so as of right now, it’s cross-stitching a Christmas stocking for me!

kit cover This is the kit that I’m currently working on, the one that the friend got me for my birthday. Her family’s got a tradition of having cross-stitched stockings for everyone, so she sucked me into it as well. Love her so much for this!

my work so far

And that’s how much work I’ve got finished so far.

I’m really enjoying getting back into cross-stitching. It’s providing endless amounts of fun. That is, except when I realize that I’ve completely screwed up a section and have to go back and rip it all out. Let me tell you, ripping out cross-stitch thread is worse than frogging chenille.

Ok, maybe not that bad, but pretty close. Especially if the thread is under other colors. It’s extremely difficult to get it untangled from the mess that is the reverse side. Blargh.

Anyway, Life is good and things are going well. College? Got denied from Barnard, but still have two applications out and need to send off another one. Ugh. Why in the world would a school make their application due on April 1? That’s when everyone else is sending out responses, you dumb buckets!!

Must run. Have a project meeting at a the ice cream shop. We got tired of going to coffee to study.

Diving for Fabric

Well, the time has come in my stage management/technical theatre class again! Yes, that’s right: time for Mini to clean out the school costume closet!

Last year, I organized the men’s costumes. All the suits are organized by color and all the jackets/coats/etc. are grouped together. Shoes (both men and women) are bundled in their pairs and stored in big plastic tubs. It took me about a month to get all this done.

This year, I get to skip scene painting since I did it last year and instead get to organize the women’s side. Oy. It’s a mess. We’ve already filled up one rolling rack from just one six-foot wide section. Mr. Director has said we can use our best judgment as to what should be kept and what should be sold at a dollar sale. So far, there have been some great fabrics!

Well, usable fabrics. There’s one flow-y dress that has been cinched at the bottom for reasons unknown. It’s got some weird coloration to it as well. I’d love to see if it fits and if it does, take it, remove the cinch and overdye it in a really cool color.

There’s also an Asian-inspired floor-length dress-ish thing that I’d love to steal and crop off to make a top.

And of course, there’s lots of Medieval and Renaissance garb with tons of boning and corseting, but I’d never take that. I’d never use it and the fabric is way to heavy for me to use.

Some of the random finds:

  • a black lacy bodysuit….
  • a blue spandex top with really long fringe. flapper-esque, but kinda skanky without a leotard under it
  • multiple short silver dresses
  • wedding dresses from various time periods

Overall, we’ve got quite a lot of good finds, depending on who’s looking. If there’s enough interest, we should be able to make a good bit of money on the sale.

I’ll post with pictures later.

Wow. Just. Wow.

So I just discovered the “import” option and I’ve got to say, WordPress has thoroughly impressed me. I was trying to decide how best to transfer all of my stuff from Blogger over to here when I came across this and, whoosh!, all my Blogger posts are here now!

Yay for Magic Buttons

And for a little knitting update, I still haven’t felted my French Market Bag yet. I’m such a bad fearless knitter. ::hangs head in shame::

Mini

Woo!

Well, at the recommendations of others, I have made the jump from Blogger to WordPress. I’m quite impressed with all the options of layouts and will probably be having a lot of fun with them. For now, though, I’ll stick with this one.

Let’s see… What is Mini up to? Well right now, I’m cross-stitching a Christmas stocking from a kit that a Cheesy friend got me for my birthday. Apparently she was tired of me stealing her stitching in Drama to get a fix. So now I’ve got my own and am loving my return to the x-stitching fold.

In the knitting realm, I’ve got some fingerless gloves to knit for mom’s birthday… which was over a month ago. Maybe I’ll count one as a birthday gift and the other as a Mothers Day gift? Yes, I like it.

The boyfriend wants a pair of socks. He’s picked these as the pattern he wants.

I also want to knit up Mrs. Darcy as my first major clothing piece, but alas, I must get all my other projects done before.

I’ll try to be back later with pictures and such.

So long!

Knitting Update

I was reading over my last post and realized, “HEY! I didn’t say anything about my current knitting projects!” So here’s an update:

Dessert Cabletini socks for Bee: Coming along quite well. I really like the toe-up method and will probably be doing a lot more of it. I’ve turned the heel and am about 1 1/2 – 2 inches into the leg. I really like the pattern, so when I make socks again, Cabletini will be high on the list.

Frenchie Market Bag: Finished! I put a big purple stripe around the middle of it and I really like how it looks. Ok, I lied. It’s not completely finished. I’ve got to felt it, but after that, it’s done!

Evangeline for Mom: I have yet to start on these, but I do love the pattern and will be starting just as soon as I get the socks done.

What’s up next? Probably the Mrs. Darcy cardigan. But maybe a vest… Or something. I dunno. Oh! I know what’s up next. A messenger bag for the boyfriend. I gave him the gift of a handknit item for Valentine’s Day. He gets to pick it out, so I’m just waiting for him to pick.

In other news, I’ve decided to take up sewing again when I have time and money of course. I’ve found lots of nice patterns online (especially a baby shoes pattern Mom sent to me. SUPER CUTE). I’ve been looking into doing more sewing since I got a new machine for Christmas, but I just haven’t had an opportunity.

More later. And pictures, I promise!
